 Question 1

Prepare a speech on the topic ' The 3 Ls of Empowerment' of Christine Lagarde

The 3 Ls of Empowerment

Respected teachers and my dear friends ,

I'm very happy to get a chance to deliver a few words before you about the topic 'Women Empowerment.'  We all know that it's March 8, International Women Day. Do you know why we should observe such a day? It is observed to state that women all over the world have an equal share in the developmental activities of each and every country. But unfortunately,  women are still considered as second class citizens in many countries. Our India is one of the countries where women suffer most because of discriminations. We still have the dowry system. Female foeticide and Child marriage is common here. Although these are prohibited by law, they still exist in our society.

The life of a typical Indian woman is just like that of a prisoner or a slave. Until she is married, she is a slave of her parents and other elder members of her family; when she gets married she becomes a slave of her husband and when the husband dies she becomes the slave of her son and daughter in law. So, a women is always in chains even though she was born as free.

This situation has to be changed. How can we make our dream world where men and women get equal opportunities and rights?  This is possible when we achieve the 3 Ls of empowerment. Do you know what they are? They are 'Learning, Labour and Leadership'. If every women achieve these powers, nobody can defeat her. This is not my words. It is Christine Lagarde, the first woman Finance Minister of France who stated this. According to her, Learning helps the woman to know about her rights and duties. Labour gives her the economic power to rise herself. A woman without any income has to depend her family for her needs. Leadership makes the woman more powerful.

Christine Lagarde says that women make better leaders than men. Women tend to make decisions based on  inclusion, compassion and sustainability. It is true that sometimes women lack the confidence to match their competence. They have to change their mindset. They should be ready to dare the difference, to take risk and step outside from their comfort zones. I, therefore, ask the girls assembled here to take charge of their lives. You have a lot to gain and nothing to lose by trying to make yourself equal to men. Hope you'll do your best. Have a good luck. Once again I express my gratitude..

Thank you all.
